I don’t know where to begin-this was possibly the best meal of my life. Denis initially didn’t have a table available but then came out to the street to offer us a spot at the bar while waiting. I’m so grateful he did and that we hadn’t wandered far. We started with drinks and fresh frites at the bar before sitting down-and then the meal! Perfection. I ordered the leeks vinaigrette which had a perfect balance of tang and a slight sweetness with a crunch from crispy onions on top. My child, who has not eaten a single vegetable since arriving in Paris, stole half my leeks and declared them her favorite food. My husband ordered the haricot verts vinaigrette with a similarly light and refreshing preparation. I ordered the plat du jour-a flaky, perfectly cooked fish with gently sautéed vegetables and a rich lemon butter sauce. My husband had the beef tartare-the beef was perfectly mild, so the accompanying cornichons sang in contrast, and the salad had a wonderfully tangy vinaigrette. My daughter had the salmon gravlax and the pink peppercorns were such a surprising contrast to the silky salmon. We finished with chocolate mousse and tiramisu-what’s not to love? The hospitality, the food, the atmosphere-it was the Paris moment we had dreamed of!
