A gem held together by exceptional staff Chez Juliette serves some of the finest food on Koh Samui. The pastries are genuinely outstanding—weekend croissants that honestly surpass what you’ll find in most Parisian bakeries. The sourdough bread is equally impressive, with that perfect crust and tangy depth you rarely find on the island. The coffee is excellent, and the overall quality of what comes out of the kitchen is consistently impressive. What truly elevates this place is the staff. They’re attentive, professional, and genuinely warm—the kind of service that makes you want to return. They work with grace under pressure and create the welcoming atmosphere that makes Chez Juliette feel special. However, there’s an uncomfortable reality: the owner’s behavior significantly undermines the experience his talented team has created. During my visits, I observed him speaking dismissively to staff, ignoring customers who didn’t fit a particular profile (seemingly preferring blond women), and displaying an entitled attitude—including having staff move his personal coffee cup while he relocated tables for incoming guests. He doesn’t greet customers consistently and creates an unnecessarily tense atmosphere. It’s a shame because everything else about this place deserves five stars. The staff have built something wonderful here despite, rather than because of, the management. They deserve your patronage and generous tips. Recommendation: Come for the exceptional food and pastries (especially those weekend croissants and sourdough bread), stay for the lovely staff, and hope the owner isn’t around. Support the team that makes this place what it is. Price per person: ฿200–400 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
