Last night, my friend and I went on a road trip that eventually led us to the well-known boneless chicken place in Mallig, Isabela. After a long and tiring drive, we were genuinely excited to finally find the place, especially since we were already very hungry. When we entered the store, we approached the counter and were handed a menu by the staff. We then made our way to a table to decide what to order. At that point, everything seemed fine—nothing out of the ordinary. However, things took a disappointing turn when a family walked in shortly after us. They were well-dressed, wearing more “formal” outfits. The moment they stepped inside, the staff immediately greeted them warmly, assisted them personally, handed them menus, and even prepared tables for them. That level of hospitality was never extended to us. It was hard not to notice the contrast. We were dressed casually—shorts and plain T-shirts—after a road trip, and it honestly felt like we were treated differently because of how we looked. Whether intentional or not, the behavior came across as prejudiced and selective, which was very off-putting. To make matters worse, while we were still browsing the menu, the female staff were loudly chatting among themselves, laughing and talking as if there were no customers inside the store. It gave the impression of unprofessionalism and a lack of basic customer awareness. Because of this experience, I completely lost interest in dining there. Good food may draw people in, but respectful, consistent service is what makes customers stay and return. Unfortunately, what we experienced did not reflect good hospitality at all.
