The name changed (formerly Usukebo China Ichigaya), so some people assumed the owner or concept changed too. It didn’t. The chef–owner is still the same person: a former salaryman who chose the 脱サラ path, built this restaurant with his own hands, and has quietly fed the appetites of former colleagues, staff, and the neighborhood ever since. That background shows. ⸻ Getting there: part of the experience My personal recommendation: take a slow walk from Ichigaya Station, Exit 3. From the subway, head toward TV Road, then gently walk uphill. It’s a mild slope — even slow walkers can manage it comfortably — and it naturally puts you in the right rhythm before arriving. That short walk somehow matches the restaurant itself: unhurried, human, and unforced. ⸻ Atmosphere: easy, cheerful, and oddly memorable The interior feels like stepping into an old ship — almost Pirates of the Caribbean–like. Spacious, a little nostalgic, slightly playful. Back in the day, there was even a surprisingly serious whiskey collection behind the bar. It’s comfortable rather than stylish. Lived-in rather than polished. That comfort is why the place is loved not just by office workers, but also by nearby TV stations, universities, professors, actors, and broadcasters. Interestingly, some Chinese customers even come here to observe Japanese-style Chinese cooking. That occasionally confuses people expecting “authentic Chinese,” but this place isn’t pretending to be that. It’s doing its own thing — and doing it well. ⸻ Service & character: the invisible ingredient One chef handles everything. Not loudly, not theatrically. Service is quick at lunch, attentive at night. Private rooms are available, making it popular for group dinners and farewell gatherings. Recently, we stopped by just to say hello. There were no seats available — lunch rush in full swing — but even that brief visit felt worth the one-hour trip. That kind of warmth doesn’t come from branding.
