If you never turned out to degust Chinese cuisine, take your chance at this restaurant. Most guests recommend trying perfectly cooked wontons, egg rolls and egg drop soup. Chinese Inn is on U.S. Highway 61 (Airline Hwy.), northbound, in central Baton Rouge. The exterior and interior look like they were updated as recently as 1982, which is probably the last year of the joint's heyday. This is an "old school" Chinese restaurant- dark interior, oriental ornamentation, everywhere, booths, a little Far East gift area, at the checkout, and Chinese music. The owners obviously live in this building, so it is quite homey. I ordered the Mandarin Chicken lunch special, which came with a big & crunchy egg roll, not a modern "Spring Roll", you know, those rip-off things. Egg-drop Soup came with the meal. The entree came to me, piping hot, with oily rice and dark-gravy, crisp chicken, resting on a bed of lettuce. This place doesn't play the buffet game, but they are open from 11:00 Am to 10:00 PM, every day. RJT
