Food was tasty. Small 6 sitter space and allowed to smoke inside. At the end of my dinner, I drank from my own water bottle and got yelled at by owner along with finger pointing at my bottle. "IN JAPAN!WATER NO! CUZ I SELL!" Owner's manners plus the indoor smoking aren't worth the food. Wish I didn't go. It soured my experience of this beautiful town. Seems some other reviewers experienced similar rudeness. Seems owner doesn't like other Asians. Price per person: ¥2,000–3,000 Food: 5 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 5

Visiting Chobi in Hakone-Yumoto was honestly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at an izakaya. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was so warm and welcoming. The locals dining there were incredibly kind — they not only made me feel at home but even insisted on treating me, which was such an unforgettable gesture of hospitality. The owner, Chobis and localate Daiko, are truly amazing. You can feel the passion and heart he puts into the place, and it shines through in every detail. The food was outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and comforting, perfectly paired with the friendly, cozy vibe of the restaurant. If you’re in Hakone-Yumoto, this isn’t just a place to eat, it’s an experience where you’re embraced like family. I can’t recommend it enough and will definitely return the next time I visit.
