I’m legally blind, and yet somehow always carrying more camera gear than a full Netflix crew . Between my Hasselblad, Leica, and the occasional forgotten filter, you’d think I was shooting a documentary — not just enjoying a hot chocolate. Choco Café, tucked inside Symphony Style Hotel Kuwait, is dangerously close to my house in Rumaithiya — which makes it my go-to spot when I need silence, sugar, or soul. The atmosphere? Usually calm enough to think. And in my world, calm is luxury. What I truly love is how safe and unbothered I feel while filming. I can set up flashes, switch lenses, even drag a reflector bag in — and nobody gives me that “umm sir?” look. Bless them. Their dessert counter is always dressed up — not full-blown Parisian couture, but think “Kuwaiti hotel elegance with a seasonal twist.” (And yes, I’ve accidentally left accessories behind more than once — and every time, I find them waiting for me next visit. Tell me that’s not hospitality with memory.) Now, for the funny bits : – Shisha smoke sometimes sneaks in from the other section like a shy perfume commercial. It doesn’t attack — just passes by like “Hi, remember me?” – ️ And asking for the bill? It’s a bit of a vocal performance. You wave, smile, then finally raise your voice just enough to break through the café’s Zen mode. – The crowd? Occasionally it feels like you’ve walked into a low-key Beirut girls’ night. (You’ll know it when you hear it.) But honestly? I love it. Even the staff and hotel managers laugh with me, not at me, when I mention these things. That says a lot. Choco Café is where I go when I need to feel invisible and seen — at the same time. — HIR MEDIA Legally blind. Creatively sharp. Always chasing the light. Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
