Chōshi-ya Ryokan is a quaint and cozy dining spot located on Kioroshi Street in the city of Inzai. Known primarily for its restaurant offerings, this establishment provides options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with the flexibility to order delivery, takeaway, or dine-in. While the premises lack a wheelchair-accessible entrance, they do come with an inviting atmosphere characterized by a sense of quietude. Parking is conveniently free in an adjacent lot, but navigating to the restaurant, particularly the kitchen area, can be a bit complex.

The menu features a selection of traditional dishes, including popular eel dishes, and patrons can enjoy a variety of beverages including beer and other alcoholic options. There have been mixed reviews regarding the quality of the meals and accommodations associated with the premises, suggesting variability in guest experiences. The restaurant also accepts reservations, accommodating those planning a meal out.

Operating hours are consistent throughout the week, opening both for midday and evening meals from Tuesday through Sunday. It’s worth noting that the establishment seems to be housed in an older building, which shows its age in certain structural elements. Despite these observations, it has attracted patrons looking for a homely and simple dining experience. The most recent piece of feedback came four months ago, and additional input or updates from management have not been provided recently.

I bought some eel jus to take home. Unajyu is delicious as other reviewers have said. I think it's soft, well-seasoned, and plentiful. It takes time to make. When I ordered three eel junami for takeout, I was told "in an hour." Maybe Choshiya? I think it would be even more expensive if it was just a review of the food. However, for takeout, you have to go to the kitchen inside the inn, which is a little confusing. Adjacent to the parking lot is an annex-like building, from which you find a suspicious door, open it, cross the hallway overlooking the Japanese garden, and then arrive at the kitchen. Next time I would like to try fried bones.
