This place was recommended by the landlord of the apartment we were renting in Rome, who told us it was one of the best places in the area. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. My sister and I walked in and ordered three cappuccinos. The employee asked what size we wanted, and I chose the grande size, which was really closer to a medium by American standards. We also ordered four pastries: a plain croissant, one filled with chocolate, a donut, and another pastry filled with cream. The total came to €39 — for three coffees and four pastries, all to go. When I questioned the price, the employee simply explained that it was because we had ordered the “grande” coffees. Even so, €39 felt extremely excessive. During our trip, we had paid close to that amount for actual sit-down meals, so paying nearly €40 for takeaway coffee and pastries felt like a tourist trap. Instead of enjoying what we hoped would be a simple, authentic Italian breakfast, we walked away feeling completely ripped off. I definitely would not recommend this place, especially to tourists. Check the prices carefully before ordering. Meal type: Breakfast

Ciardi Bar Ristorante is a must stop if you're anywhere in the nearby area. Not only for gluten-free options (of which there are many choices), but for those of us that can eat fully glutinized pastries. There are a small handful of indoor tables and some sidewalk tables. Many people take their food away, which is apparently less expensive. There are also many diners that eat at the pastry bar. They open very early in the morning and they are open all day long and have a well-stocked bar it seems. We also had scrambled eggs and some gluten-free sandwiches which were all very good. Again, if you are anywhere nearby, it is well worth the stop. Meal type: Breakfast Price per person: €10–20 Dietary restrictions: Wonderful and a wide variety of gluten-free options.
