gabye gentleman horse may you run the Manchurian dance off in heavens stable crazy lady *Note: 2 of my heroes basically lived at Cinnabar before it was shut down. 1 of them even had their wedding here. Alvin was such a good dude may he RIP and he did what restaurants are supposed to do, like what a dog does inside a home, they bring everyone together, then they create community, they create culture. At one point, he even bought the bar from a famous Chinese restaurant in dtla that was closing, shipped it out to Glendale and started his own mixology program long before that was the "in thing." But here we are now. The good people are being rented out. You pretty much have to already be rich to live here. Our culture is disappearing. The tale of a poor unknown kid coming to the City of Angels and "making it" can't really be told anymore. Because then it would be a lie (although there are always exceptions). I feel so fortunate to live here and work with my heroes and be a part of YOUR life, but that attitude don't get you nathan in tinseltown. Again, you vote with your wallet. And the future is up to YUS. And Cinnabar was evidence of that. And, I'd like to hope that the good people will win in the end, because there are still good people everywhere, yes, just like the ones that I've found on Yelp, just like the women that I've written love letters to . . . but then I see sites like overheardla and I think about my experiences here and my friend's experiences here (especially with dating) and I wonder if we're getting what we deserve. I do. But, here's the thing in the end, you can do whatever you want. You can decide if Newton's 3rd Law actually applies to you or not. You can decide if you want your life to be an authentic experience, born out of the hearts of men, like Alvin, or a consumer based experience born out of a soulless corporation, like so many of the places that are taking over LA. I will be fine. My friends will be fine. You will probably be fine. But our restaurants, our culture, our true community, they won't be fine and they're disappearing very quickly . . . unless WE all do something about it. Unless we realize that we have 100% control over what goes on in our worlds and then take action. Just think about who you support the next time you hand over those dollar bills . . . or don't. The proof is in the pudding. And Cinnabar had the good stuff. Thank you, Alvin. May you RIP, my dude. End of preach.*
