Port Macquarie has a vast array of eateries. From small nondescript cafes to fine dining.Wandering the street we came across an area with cafes packed in like canned sardines. My wife chose. According to her the name "sounded young and fresh", which goes to show you can judge a book by its cover, and invariably be wrong. The Co Cafe..well, well.An opportunity begging...but ignored.I could hear the distant clanging of bells when I approached the counter and became aware there was a solitary waitress. An older lady (no issues with that) her face set grimly against a sudden influx of diners (it being Easter and Port was hustling). Outgunned. I watched as she took a breakfast out, her legs blurred with frantic pace. "Who wanted the big breakfast?" she blurted, and plonked it down in front of a hefty Aussie guy whose suddenly crestfallen face let me know he found the sparse plate anything but "big". Too late, she belted to the desk, pen poised to take my order. I went the "Green Brekkie" and the "Corn Fritters", specifying the bacon included with the corn fritters wasnt to touch the other food as my wife is a vegetarian (not me, that bacon was destined for my belly). Adding a banana smoothie I paid my hard earned cash and sat down. Brekkies arrived. My sourdough toast upon which my eggs sat were a tad bigger than a cut off piece of French Stick, and not toasted. Three very thin slices of avocado made sure a part of the description was at least true by their very presence, some raw English Spinach was dumped next to it. Some pesto and obligatory sprouts tossed on top finished it off. The Corn Fritters were honestly the smallest fritters on planet earth, the "home made relish" lacking flavour, another three thin slices of avocado lay lonely on the side (Im pretty sure they get about 8 breakfast from one avo!) Alas, the bacon lay up against the avocado, meaning it all made its way to MY plate. Banana Smoothie arrived, turns out it was a banana flavoured milkshake. To their credit as we were leaving they gave us the ordered smoothie, to sip on while we wandered away, bellies grumbling. So, if competition is supposed to help businesses pick up their game then the Co Cafe is staggering, kneeling in the crumbs of possibilities..
