Fantastic fish and delivery is only $2.00 and well worth it. The halibut was the best I've ever had.

I don't like the way I was treated. I called to ask if they have fish suitable for making sushi at home. The person  answered in Japanese first and then translated it (after we've already spoken in English). Then explained how sushi is fish and rice and its origins, and that sashimi is the correct word to use, also using origins and such. It was long and pretentious. It made me feel stupid for asking my question. Which doesn't make sense because I asked if they had fish suitable for sushi. This may be the only place to get good fish for sushi in Cincinnati, and I have a good feeling that their fish is probably awesome. But I find myself questioning if I want to support this business after being treated like that. Up to you to decide, I guess.

Cincinnati's grocery stores don't stock sashimi grade fish. Not Jungle Jim's, whole foods, fresh market, trader Joe's, Kroger, Cam... there are a few small Japanese groceries that sell it..but its all frozen hard and doesn't have that freshness to it. The owner at coastal seafoods is incredibly knowledgeable and knows his stuff when he makes recommendations. We have bought sashimi salmon here a few timed and its always been fresh, melt I your mouth delicious. He even filets it for you if you ask. Everything is done via advanced order. The shop is small and feels like a place you could frequent in the northeastern states. The prices are reasonable and makes eating raw fish much more affordable than eating out at a restaurant. I am not sure why the price range for this place is four $$$$ to be honest. You might be paying more upfront for a larger quantity, but compared to other places where you could be getting this kind of quality of fish, it's not even close to being four $'s. Give him a call, ask what hes got or what you can order, and be specific. He is a bonafide ichthyologist and knows his stuff. Actually he isn't an ichthyologist, but he does speak a couple languages. Just a couple. Or three. Maybe five.
