Took me a while to walk to this place from the hotel under the hot sun, but marched on since it was on my 'to-go' list. It was Sunday noon and not crowded. Lovely vibe, very cute set up. Ordered an ice latte and the rare cheesecake, but I don't think it was 'rare', and it was 'sea-salt peanut' cheesecake. Slightly disappointed but I'll biased when it comes to cheesecake... So disappointed at this place. It took a lot to visit this cafe, but I made the trek because it was highly rated online. But if you’re a foreigner, better to go elsewhere. I was served differently than the locals. The lemon cake was terribly dry and dense. And the coffee they served was given rudely. One guy ordered an iced pour over like I did, his came with a carafe and a separate glass of ice in a tray, mine came already premixed in a glass. The place is cozy, I’ll give it that much. Dear Kathrina : My apologies! Lemon cup cake should have been served with icing sugar on top and a bit lemon zest. Colleagues might overlook that. As for the drink, was the drink the other customer ordered the blend drip coffee instead of pour over? Because the carafe you mentioned was accompanied by the drip coffee only. We do not treat customers differently, or maybe our colleagues misinterpreted what you ordered due to language barrier? Still, I am so sorry to have you experience all this, perhaps next time you drop by, I can treat you with some coffee and desserts?

I visited Coffee Essential many times to do my PhD work. I get the impression that the owner really loves her business and that comes across in every aspect of the cafe. The coffee is very nice, the best I had in Taiwan. They taste test every pot of coffee so you can be confident you won't get a bad cup. I regularly had the Dutch coffee and I highly recommend it, it's absolutely delicious. The food is very nice, particularly the brownie. The service is efficient and the staff are friendly. Some of them speak a little English, enough to get your order so you don't have to be worried if you don't speak Mandarin; the menus are in both English and Mandarin. I was very pleased that one time I forgot my laptop charger, one of the guys working there ran outside with it to return it to me.They have very nice spaces to work with lamps and power outlets. It also seems like a nice place to relax at their sofas and tables. The decoration is well thought out and has a consistent feel, which is relaxed but also trendy. The music is the right volume and always good. The prices surprised me because they're certainly higher than in the UK but they're the same as in similar cafes around Taipei, so you shouldn't be put off by that.Overall I really liked this place and I'm really missing it now that I'm back in the UK. I'll definitely come here again when I come back to Taiwan.
