Adeline at Commonwealth Cafe was absolutely wonderful during my interaction with her this past Thursday. She took my somewhat complicated order with such patience and kindness, and she could not have been nicer to deal with. She made the whole experience easy and pleasant. The times I’ve been here the workers aren’t very pleasant and very unhelpful. No smile, no greeting but still ask for tips. This time I asked for a drink on their menu and they said they were out. Ok that’s fine, but at least offer other suggestions instead of just staring back at me looking annoyed. Latte ended up okay, nothing special to come back for especially with the vibe.

honestly, i never thought i’d be writing such a negative review about commonwealth but the “shrinkflation” is getting ridiculous. to preface- commonwealth used to be my family’s favorite brunch spot & we’ve been coming for years. at one point, we would do brunch there at least once a month. my order always stayed consistent, a grilled cheese with the espresso anglaise french toast to share. i stopped going as frequently the last couple years, but my most recent visit genuinely had me shocked. the prices have never been economical, but i used to ALWAYS have leftovers for later. this time, i ate my whole plate and still wasn’t full. when they put the french toast on our table, i thought there must’ve been a mistake. it was just two tiny pieces of brioche- absolutely not $22(!!!!!!!) worth. the pieces of french toast used to be the size of the plate. and in addition the taste of the french toast itself wasn’t event remotely close to what it used to be. it was DRY. it used to be custardy, pillowy, and soft. the only thing that remained the same was the espresso anglaise. i had to prove to myself i wasn’t going crazy so i found a picture of when i went in jan 2023 and compared it to went i went last saturday (june 2026) and was so disappointed. it used to be $15 3 years ago (vs $22 now) for MORE THAN DOUBLE THE PORTION we all know inflation is at a high but this genuinely feels like robbery. cutting portions by that much while continuing to increase prices is ridiculous. unfortunately, i will no longer be eating at commonwealth and i hope one day they decide to bring their original quality food back!!!!
