If you happen to be around Sun Valley Center for the Arts, visit this bar. Serving perfectly cooked mushrooms, mushroom ravioli and mushroom pizza is the unique characteristic of Cookbook Restaurant. Tasty chocolate pudding, cheesecakes and flija have an appetizing taste. Here you may have good house wine, whiskey or white wine. It's nice to try delicious coffee.

I've been a customer of Cookbook since its early days, visiting once or twice a year and even ordering takeout throughout Covid. The food has always been consistently excellent, and I've recommended it to friends and family for years. Unfortunately, after my most recent experience, and specifically how the owner handled it, I won't be returning. I had a reservation for Saturday at 4:30 PM over Labor Day weekend to celebrate my birthday with my family. The evening before, I called to see about a later time and learned the restaurant had double-booked us against a private event. I understand mistakes happen. That's true for any business, and I don't fault them for the error itself. What followed, though, was disappointing. The manager offered to look into a takeout order. Later, the owner called and offered a 3 PM seating, which didn't work for our group. I told him honestly that I'd loved the restaurant for years and was excited to celebrate there, and asked if there was anything else he could do. He didn't offer any real alternative beyond the earlier slot, just a hope we'd visit again sometime. When I said I likely wouldn't be back, we got disconnected, so I called again just to finish the conversation calmly. He talked over me and hung up after saying to come back "if I could find it in my heart." What stood out wasn't the scheduling mistake. It was that there was no real acknowledgment of the inconvenience and no attempt to make it right, even something small like a discount or a bottle of wine on a future visit. Notably, they enforce a strict 24-hour cancellation policy with a $50/person fee, so the lack of reciprocity when they were the ones unable to honor the booking was hard to miss. At the end of the day, Cookbook clearly doesn't care. The way this was handled felt like a box to check rather than any genuine concern for the inconvenience it caused. I’m a regular because of the food, but be careful as they don’t always honor your reservations or try to make things right when they error. Food: 4 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3

If you’re looking for a cozy, intimate dining experience in a clean, modern setting, then Cookbook Restaurant is for you. Burke & his wife Vita run the restaurant themselves, making you feel like a guest in their home. The food is excellent but not fussy and the service makes you feel like a local, even if you’re not. Best of all, Burke’s love and knowledge of wine is shared from the moment you walk in the door. He asks a few simple questions & uses his uncanny ability to pick out the perfect glass or bottle, just for you. It’s a must-go restaurant in Sun Valley!
