What a delight to dine with Cooking by Rey in Cuenca. Their house is near Parque San Sebastian and was a bit difficult to find. Look at the pictures online to view the front of the house before you go. Rey is a Cambodian expat who cooks her family recipes with heart and soul. That taste and feeling provided this foodie with a trip back in time to Cambodia. When we arrived, her husband Joe greeted us warmly and directed us to a table that was set with candlelight. Dining choices must be made in advance via their website, since Rey plans and cooks to order. Each order includes four courses: egg or spring rolls, Asian salad, a main, and dessert with included wine or NA beverage. My choice was Lok Lak Beef Tenderloin that was tender and cooked perfectly to medium rare. My partner had the Duck Breast which melted in his mouth. They both personalized the meal with stories of their travels and how they ended up in Ecuador. This family-run restaurant is a foodie find that necessitates many return visits. Go! Everything was perfect for our lunch with Rey. The food was amazing. The vegetarian egg rolls were the best we’ve had anywhere in the world. The salmon and fried rice was the best I have had in Ecuador and many other countries. The music and ambience provided an impeccable backdrop to the food. We enjoyed talking with Rey, her husband and the staff. We highly recommend going to ‘Cooking with Rey’ if you want to enjoy an incredible meal. Everyone there makes you feel at home.
