Michelin Guide rating

More info

Restaurant CRKL is located just next to the Rijksweg, at one of the most important junctions of Roeselare. Fortunately, there is parking for customers at the restaurant. During the summer there is a terrace, away from bustling Roeselare, in an oasis of peace among the trees and nature. The building is completely in contemporary architecture, both outside and inside: wow! The interior is sleek but very cozy due to the old pink and gold tones. An ideal location for lunch after a business meeting or just a romantic evening with your sweetheart. During trendy lounge music, the 2 types of bread, dark grains and not sweet brioche with light Provencal herbs are presented. With the aperitif of champagne (a premier cru blanc de blancs 100% chardonnay) we get some gastronomic snacks that immediately put us in the best mood. Red cabbage soft and pure. Flatbread with chicken, mildly seasoned. The final and warm snack is the crowning touch of the appetizers with a creation of fresh beach crab in its -spicier- gravy. Then we continue with the first starter of line-caught sea bass. With grapefruit, but this is certainly not decisive in terms of acidity. Rather, the softness of the tiger's milk and the al dente quinoa is a nice match. A fresh start that puts our taste senses completely on point. The second starter is the weever, Dragón in Spanish, this type of fish does indeed look a bit like a dragon... but not on our plate. Lightly grilled and smoked: we like that. With a creamy soft sauce of leek, white cabbage and whey. Remains pleasantly long in the mouth. The main course is a slow-cooked veal. Calf cheeks to be precise, as it turns out. The menu simply states "veal" and I - as a difficult meat eater, or should I say demanding - thought this would be a veal loin. So to be honest I was a bit disappointed. I would recommend putting this on the map in more detail. If it had been described like that, I would have taken something different. Although I must admit that I did taste it and in the end I ate everything with gusto. Conclusion: sometimes it shouldn't just be in your head and you have to taste first, then judge. The cooking method was not asked but it was rare (or medium) as it should be. The sauce is made from sweet potato, chicory, and mushrooms and a bitterness from the coffee, very well balanced. Side dish is veal sweetbreads with fresh chicory. The dessert is a wonderfully sweet, lukewarm dessert with a subtle freshness due to the presence of the conférence pear and tonka ice cream. Includes a Breton shortcrust pastry and slightly crispy oatmeal. Yum! Ideal to conclude. With dessert we get a light red wine from Italy with some fine bubbles, brachetto grape with strawberry, cherry and raspberry notes. With the coffee there are also homemade sweets such as the canelé (the best ever) macaron, Turkish delight made from (pronounced) ginger and a pimped madelein The welcome and service are so friendly and friendly There is a wait of about 45 minutes between dishes, which we think is perfect timing. Glasses of wine are regularly (and generously) refilled. Price-quality ratio is very correct considering the quality products. For this menu description, calculate all-in about 120 euros per person. In honor of 4 years of CRKL, there is currently an interesting 3-course menu including an aperitif with snacks, 2 glasses of wine, water and coffee for € 71. We may have a highly rated restaurant here in the future (Gaultmillau and perhaps a star in the making?) So we would recommend coming asap Practically the restaurant is closed on Saturday afternoon, Sunday, Monday & Tuesday evening Favorite dish is a difficult choice between the weever and dessert In our opinion, this is the best restaurant in Roeselare after Boury. We will definitely come back!
