A quirky, old-fashioned boozer - one of the last of its kind in England. It's not often nowadays one comes across one of the country's rare unspoiled pubs. There are only a handful remaining and this is one of them.We visited on a trip from Dorset to Durham and came across it by accident. The Crown & Mitre's got a warm, friendly atmosphere with good real ales and interesting paraphernalia on the walls. The landlord's a great character and friendly. Again, one of the last of his kind.Don't take any notice of any of the less-than-glowing reviews below. If you're a miserable sod, as they all appear to be from, you'll probably be better off next door in the pub-that-dares-not-speak-its-name.
