Cyndi’s Diner fits the definition of “off the beaten path” and maybe “hole in the wall” based on location and outward appearances. However, inside is big on style, flavor and service! Cynthia Burnett, a highly skilled caterer earlier in life, answered the call to open a diner to feed the masses. Daily specials change daily, but are certainly special. Today was a choice of Red beans and rice, chicken tetrazzini, smothered pork chops, or Salisbury steak, among other choices. Some days feature fried chicken, fried or grilled catfish, pan trout, ribs and many other delicacies. Sides include rice and gravy, green beans, Lima beans, side Salad, fried okra and all of the usual suspects with some changes day to day. Today we tried the red beans and rice. It was very flavorful. Served in a sizable bowl, it had plenty of sausage and rice. The beans were seasoned well and this made for a hearty meal. The side salad was fresh and served w your choice of dressing. The okra was lightly fried, crispy and seasoned. All good. Your choice of corn bread or a they-made-it dinner roll. The chicken tetrazzini was excellent. Fat spaghetti noodles, creamy, cheese sauce, chunks of chicken and spices. The servings are huge. The green beans were seasoned. Limas are just fine. Choice of tea, lemonade, koolaid and soft drinks. Everyone there went out of their way to make you feel welcome, provide excellent service and if you leave hungry, it’s your fault! Cynthia’s still does catering by appointment and has special menus on special occasions. This weekend, in honor of Father’s Day, they are open Sat and Sun, firing up the big smoker and doing ribs and all the fixings! Give Cynthia’s a try and don’t let the location deter you. You’ll be glad you made the trip! Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian offerings: Large vegetarian selection Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetable options. Dietary restrictions: Ms Cyndi said she’d make menu accommodations if within her power to do so
