We booked Da Etta a month in advance after seeing many recommendations from our hotel, Reddit, and other sources. We were especially excited because we told the restaurant ahead of time that we would be celebrating our recent engagement there. Unfortunately, this ended up being the worst restaurant experience we’ve had so far in Italy and it completely ruined what was supposed to be a special evening. The service was disappointing from the start. We felt unwelcome, especially as tourists, despite seeing other tourists dining there. We asked only for glasses because we wanted to drink our own water, but we were still charged for “acqua” on the bill even though no water was brought to us. If there is a charge for providing glasses or allowing outside water, that should be clearly explained rather than appearing as a water charge. The food also did not live up to expectations. The fried zucchini flower appetizer was bland and lacked the flavor we were expecting. The bread was just standard bread with butter. For the main course, I ordered the daily special, the spaghettone allo scoglio, which was unfortunately extremely over-salted and did not have the fresh seafood flavors we were hoping for. To their credit, they did offer a free dessert after we expressed our disappointment, but at that point we were ready to leave. After sharing that we were celebrating our engagement, we had hoped for a much warmer and more memorable experience. It’s possible that any restaurant can have an off night, but after booking a month ahead and hearing so many positive recommendations, this was a major disappointment. We ended up going to a late-night sandwich shop afterward, which thankfully saved the night and gave us the enjoyable food experience we were hoping for. Based on our experience, we would not return. We hope others have a better visit, but this was unfortunately the low point of our trip in Italy. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: €20–30
