Having been to Rome a few times now, we ventured out for authentic Roman foods. Otello delivered just that, with high quality and fresh ingredients. Francesca, the manager and our waiter, Kadri delivered excellent service. I ordered a bit off menu and Francesca was able to make my dish happen. We started with fried calamari which was super fresh and very tasty. This isn’t frozen calamari. It was supple and tender, the way fresh calamari is supposed to be. Served with a side of marinara for dipping, the fresh lemon and sea salt really balanced the squid. I ordered chicken saltimbocca (without potatoes) and substituted rigatoni pomodoro. My wife enjoyed rigatoni carbonara. Both dishes were well seasoned and balanced, without being over salty. The focaccia was great. Thin and crispy on the bottom and with EVOO and topped with sea salt and fresh rosemary. If you’re looking for great food in Trastevere, Otello should be at the top of your list. You’ll go home full and satisfied. 5/5 stars. I’d give it 10/5 but Google limits their ratings. Oh, arrive early when they open for dinner service. Or grab a reservation. Without either, be prepared to wait, a while as Otello is hopping and busy by 7pm.
