The key aspect of this bar is the Italian cuisine. Come to Decarlo's for a break and order nicely cooked pasta, prawns and arugula salads. It's time to degustate good wine.

Select between indoor and outdoor seating. The high ratings of this place would be impossible without the nice staff. Professional service is something clients appreciate here. A number of visitors find that prices are average for what you receive. From the guests' point of view, the atmosphere is enjoyable.

An interesting space inside an old-fashioned style apartment complex, this has more the ambiance of a hotel dining room, say, than a restaurant. The restaurant was not heavily occupied. And even though my friend and I are not spring chickens, we were probably the youngest people in the room. Service was quite slow, despite the sparse number of customers. I'm not talking about the time it took to get our meals, but rather basic things as how long it took for us to be given menus or to get the waiter's attention to get the bill at the end. I had a risotto dish and liked it very much.  Would happily order it again.  My friend had a veal special and was not particularly impressed.  I wouldn't race to go back, but if someone suggested it and really wanted to go, I wouldn't protest either.

We returned to the restaurant which is now located in a 1930s retirement home in Northwest near the National Cathedral. A very traditional American-Italian menu. Echoes of Philadelphia or Chicago in the 1950s. Good sized portions. Reliable service As the Washington Post  restaurant critic said of de Carlo's, "if you like being the youngest person int he room, you won't be disappointed" Mandatory valet parking is $10 and works very well. Priced about even with Maggiano's. Plan on about $120 for a couple with dessert and a glass of wine. The dining room is very spacious and traditional. Very high ceilings. Good for conversation. The tables are well spaced.

DeCarlo's is an old breed of refined dining that you don't see often anymore: moody candlelit interior, high-backed leather booths along the walls, white tablecloths, and formal waitstaff. Autographed celebrity photos on the wall and a salad named for Diane Rehm. It is quite the neighborhood establishment and we were excited to finally visit, only to find out that it will be moving locations soon! We ordered the Agnolotti alla Crema and the Frutti di Mare. I would love it if there were more vegetarian options to try, as the fresh pasta was excellent and the sauces well made. Make sure to save room for the decadent desserts! I love the covered patio dining as well, to enjoy good weather as well as to stay COVID safe. During the pandemic they stopped lunch service but I hope to see it resume!
