Recently I traveled to the city of Ponce and a few people recommended a place called Descorcha’o in Plaza del Mercado Isabel II. I stopped by for lunch and wanted to share my experience. We started by ordering sorullitos de maiz. My cousin, who was visiting from New Zealand, loved them. I agreed with her. They were very good, super tasty, and cooked to the right level of crispiness with the mayo-ketchup, super yummy! I ordered the carne frita with maduros, white rice, and pink beans, along with a natural passion fruit juice. Everything was excellent. The seasoning in the beans reminded me of the ones my grandmother used to make, and the carne frita had that perfect balance of crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. If I had to give one small piece of feedback it would be that the portions felt a bit smaller than what I am used to seeing at other places for a similar price. Still, the service was good, attentive, and very helpful with recommendations. I highly recommend stopping by if you are in the city center in Ponce.
