Perhaps the best Thai in Abu Dhabi. Killer mocktails too, yet to try the Japanese side of the menu but definitely will Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: AED 50–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Green Curry

Desert lotus restaurant reviewThis might be one of the long reviews but it will be worth reading.So I have been craving sticky rice with mango and I posted and asked around. I got quite few recommendations for Desert lotus restaurant but I didn’t go for it at first; I tried four different restaurants before taking the extra step and passing by their restaurant and I did this because where I currently live is not covered with their delivery area.I eventually went in as I was invited to try theirs and I was told I will search no more once I take the first bite. I booked my husband for Sunday and we booked our table, we arrived in Al bander and the restaurant from in and out looks really beautiful, 5 stars kind of restaurant. The staff were welcoming, humble but knowledgeable and we asked for their advice in the menu. My husband wanted to try the Japanese side and I wanted to keep it as Thai as possible. So here is the review for the dishes we’ve ordered1) Drinks: Ice Thai milk tea; this was a mind blowing because the taste was so balanced, not too sugary yet very pleasant. Virgin passion fruit mojito; I don’t like normally most of the mojitos as most of the places were either too sugary/concentrated/ fuzzy, this one was the right balance I couldn’t feel but harmony within the flavors and I was happy ( yes I took some from my husband drink ! )2) Side dishes:- Crispy mushrooms:If fried calamary is something you like then this is a WINNER! It’s a must try because its not oily nor too strong in mushroom taste yet its crispy, yummy and comes with sweet and sour dipping.- Som Tum ThaiIt’s the green papaya salad and we took it as take away but the taste of it was perfect combination; simple yet mastered.3) Main dishes:Thai- Green curry chicken; we asked for it to be mild and I asked for coconut milk to be on the side based on a bad experience before in a different restaurant. They brought it along with white rice and the smell.. mama mia ! I’m not from Thai but I felt the amount of welcoming from that food as if I was home !Thai- Stir fried veggies mixed mushrooms with oyster sauce; this is supper yummy and I wont say more but we both loved itJapanese – Tako and Hotate sashimi; the display, the cut , the serving .. We were rotten spoiled that’s all what I’m going to say !4) Desert:Here comes the moment of truth… I was nervous I was anxious as if I’m in a competition or race; here the beauty being served 2 mango sticky rice beautifully placed. We were told that normally the mango is between 6 to 8 cuts depending on the size of the mango.I took a bite and I surfed far away from this land… This made me emotional knowing that my journey to explore for the best mango sticky rice in town if not the whole UAE is over. I have been served different mango sticky rice and most of them got it wrong I even got served in some of them strawberry! It was like a CRIME in my eyes.This one is sticky soft yet crunchy, a pinch of salt glorifying the beauty of the mango the taste is beyond expression.Here comes the over all expression:A lot of Thai or Japanese food might sound like a simple dish and you would be surprised when I tell you some have failed to deliver but this restaurant keeps me high with all the excellent food, quality, love, and friendliness. Add to that a lot of places raise their prices to cover their rent yet they forget to provide the quality; they might have a good show but it’s a one time go and most likely for a show. This restaurant you will enjoy it all including the freshness and quality, everything you will pay is worth beyond what they ask.By far this is now crowned as our favorite restaurant in town, every single dish was served just right; for the first time in quite sometime I didn’t need to say I want extra sauce, not this not that we were spoiled with perfection… It is beyond five stars its you flying to the moon! Desert lotus … you have just raised the bar for every restaurant I’m going to visit in my life! Well done.
