This place is amazing! Their sandwiches will blow your mind. I’ve had 3 different ones and they’re all great. ROAST PORK RAAB FTW today. Inside atmosphere is nice for an order at the counter spot, and they have a basic patio for summer, too. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I’ve been a longtime fan of Dimo’s pizza, pasta and sandwiches. It has taken me a while to finally try dinner service at Dimo’s Italian Specialties… I waited for them to work out the kinks of rolling out this ambitious dining experience. I finally made it in tonight for an early Mother’s Day celebration- It exceeded expectations. Our server, Sara, was exceptional as she patiently guided us through the menu items and made solid recommendations. I always loved ordering pasta dishes at the pizzeria but missed table service and more vegetables dishes. Doug Miriello is a genius and I love his menu and dishes. We go to Italy as often as we can, and try every Italian restaurant in town. There is much to love about Italian in Portland, but one thing there was never a chance of was a real, European style trattoria in Portland. A place that is casual, reasonably priced, with substantial portions of actual, high-quality Italian (not Italian-American food). We didn't think it was possible. A family feel? With great food, not dumbed down for Americans? Without paying $50 for a plate of pasta? I didn't blame Portland for not having it. We're a town of chefs and culinary schools, not of history, tradition or family. Rent and ingredients too high, customers too fickle. Who would dare? Dimo's Italian Specialties. The best, most authentic, most welcoming Italian restaurant in Portland. It's hard to admit, but it may actually be better than almost anywhere we've eaten in Italy, because it manages to keep the traditional, family-run feel of an authentic trattoria, while serving authentic dishes from various regions of Italy simultaneously. That seems like a contradiction in terms. They put together the best pastas of several hidden gems off the beaten path of Venice, Bologna, Rome and Campania. And managed to execute them all flawlessly? On a seasonal menu? It doesn't make sense. It's like if Pink Floyd came out with a best of that somehow managed to feel more cohesive and authentic than Dark Side of the Moon, but only played your local bar with no cover charge. And then casually mentioned they were going to do it again all new next season. Oh yeah, and it was the friendliest service we've ever had in a town well known for very friendly service. I want to live here. Can I think of anything to criticize? Um...maybe the wine list could be somewhat longer with a larger percentage of Italian wines? That's the best I can come up with. (Our wine was delicious and our delightful server steered us perfectly). Thank you Dimo's. We probably will stop trying other restaurants now. Shame, but why go anywhere else?
