10 July 2026 - i came by on a Friday evening and the place was about 30-40% filled. there were only 2 staff, a cashier and a cook. the cashier was this friendly bespectacled lady, whom i believe might be the boss. i ordered their fish soup with mee sua ($6.30) and was pleasantly surprised when i saw that the fish slices came without the skin - just the way i like my fish slices! the batang used was incredibly fresh and chunky, and paired really well with the comforting peppery soup. it also came with generous amounts of vegetables. while the bowl was smaller than usual, it's filled to the brim and left me pretty satisfied. giving their service a 3/5 as it was rather slow; i waited for a good 20-25 mins even when the place was not crowded. also, the tables were dirty and had grains of rice + soup spills on them. overall, this is a fuss-free and cosy spot for really good fish soup, but i do think the dining environment could be improved. Out of all the fish soup stalls in Fortune Centre, Diner's Shack is still my favourite. The fish slices are always fresh, thick and perfectly cooked, while the fish roe is equally fresh with no fishy smell at all. The soup is comforting and you can tell the ingredients are prepared with care. I also recommend the curry chicken, which has a rich and fragrant curry, with tender chicken that pairs really well with the rice. The only downside is the waiting time during peak hours, but it's understandable since each bowl is cooked individually. Definitely worth the wait for a satisfying meal. I enjoyed the curry, reminds me of Sally's at Compass Point. I'll come here just for it. But the payment process is sucky, they refuse to use a QR code to help customers with PayNow, so we need to manually key in their mobile number, I just can't understand why so. The service is awfully slow.. not sure if it's purely manpower or the process/ workflow. Eg. they accept/ prioritise phone orders when the physical queue is already long. Despite only 2 items on the menu + self service, the process felt chaotic, as the server multi task with order taking, assembly, clearing cutlery/ utensils, and issuing them. But the worst is the tray return area, they want us to dump the remains from the meal, and sort the cutlery. This itself is not a horrible idea, but the dumpster is oddly positioned and hard to reach, especially so with the heavy/ fragile plates and bowls and needing to bend over and scraping the plates (if one wants to do a good job). And more recently, I went again, wanting to try the fish soup, I was made to wait as the staff focused on something else (I think clearing rubbish), the wait was no less than 4-5mins.. then when she's ready for me, she said the fish soup would take 20mins. I can't wait for it, but waited 4-5mins anyway ;) Meal type: Brunch
