District Kitchen + Cocktails has really grown on me over the years. The biggest draw is the patio. It’s one of the better neighborhood patios around, with surprisingly great people-watching that makes it easy to settle in for a couple of hours. Their happy hour is where District really shines. The happy hour menu is excellent, especially the street tacos. Both the chicken and pork tacos are outstanding and easily some of the best values on the menu. The margaritas are solid, and while the draft beer selection isn’t huge, it’s good enough that there’s usually something worth ordering. One thing I’ve noticed—and really appreciate—is how much the service has improved. It used to be frustratingly slow, but they’ve clearly made changes. These days the staff is attentive, drinks stay full, and someone is never far away. As someone who’s admittedly impatient, that’s a huge plus. It’s also incredibly convenient for those of us who live in the neighborhood, making it an easy go-to for a casual meal or happy hour. My only real criticism is the happy hour setup. Since the specials are only available in the bar area, it often leads to families—including young kids—packing into what is otherwise a relatively small bar space. It creates an odd dynamic where the bar feels less like a bar and more like an overflow family dining room. Expanding happy hour to the dining room would make for a much better experience for everyone. Overall, District has come a long way. The improved service, great patio, strong happy hour, and neighborhood convenience make it a place I find myself returning to regularly.
