【A Legit French Bistro Tucked Away in Naha’s Red-Light District】 When people hear “Tsuji,” they usually think of Naha’s well-known red-light district—a place even locals tend to avoid. But the other day, I happened to drive by the area (my family home is actually in Tsuji, haha), and I noticed a stylish new French bistro 『Duma』 had opened right in the middle of it! I was totally surprised—“They opened a restaurant here?!” I didn’t have high expectations, but when I actually went to try it out, every single dish was top-notch. Seriously, not a single miss. They also had a really interesting wine selection. One standout was a bold American red called “COFFEE”—yes, it actually had a coffee aroma, and it was awesome. The chef, who’s from outside Okinawa, is a young guy with solid experience in French cuisine from the mainland. He’s also trained in the art of knife work to bring out the full flavor of ingredients—truly a skilled professional. One dish that blew me away was the carrot râpée. Apparently, the way he cuts the carrots makes all the difference. Who knew knife skills could elevate a salad that much? Sure, Tsuji might feel a little awkward to visit because of its past reputation (lol), but the area is slowly changing, with new tourist hotels popping up. If you’re on the hunt for a seriously good French bistro, I totally recommend checking this restaurant out. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
