I should have known something was up right when I looked at the wine list. No cabs, no zins, but "orange wine". Oh no, not one of these "natural wine" places. Why can't there be a decent, normal wine bar anywhere in North county? If you don't know what "natural wine" is, it is a specific wine making process that sets wine back about 1000 years. It is the wine equivalent of choosing to drink an Egyptian barley water fermented/mummified in a clay pot instead of a modern IPA. God knows what ferments these things, they are always off. Anyway, bit the bullet and got the "bordeaux" which tasted almost like a bordeaux, but aged in a urinal at McDonald's. I tried my wife's "chilled red" which tasted like 90% cat pee and 10% bong water. Oh well, got duped on the types of wines here, fine, hopefully the food will be good. Get the "bread and butter". No butter. Double check and they put a (v) next to it. Calling some corn paste "butter". Calling this natural wine episode of fear factor a "wine bar". The cherry on top was the tuna sashimi, which smelled like it was caught in 2020 and tasted like bacterial vaginosis. The steak was okay (thankfully they didn't try to mess with it too much), but everything else seemed to be covered in those little packets of crushed peanuts and spices you get in a Thai salad mix. This place is trying way too hard and failing miserably. Every person seemed to know each other, so must be some cult of masochists. Double read every item on the menu, these are tricks! 0 stars. This is what all reviews should aspire to. It’s mostly accurate, highly entertaining, and thoughtfully written. After reading this you ask yourself “is Kevin the kind a guy I’d grab a beer with?” And the obvious answer is a resounding “yes!!” Kevin, come on back and we’ll buy you a steak, fries, and a Caesar salad. That’s an easy ground ball down the middle. And bring a 6-pack of Budweiser for yourself, we’ll look the other way.

Great little place with a nice vibe and great food. The burger is gigantic and amazing. The kale salad was also delicious. But the mushroom toast is something special. Highly recommended! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

The food is fabulous—no doubt about that. The rest is so bad. We were two couples for an early Friday night dinner. Two of the four entrees were plopped down before our appetizers. A third came soon after. My entree came well after my husband and friends had completely finished their meals. When the waiter, not ours, dropped off the first set of entrees and we complained he shrugged it off as too bad. He told us the food comes out when it comes out. But here's the thing. That's not fine dining. That's not even casual family dining. That's food court dining. Oh, and the appetizers? They finally came well after we had all finished our entrees. While I am willing to give Echale a second chance, my husband says never again. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–100 Food: 4 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Sorry your experience wasn’t to your liking. We are a very small restaurant with an even smaller kitchen. Our servers let each table know that the food is served family style and meant to be shared. It also states on the menu that food comes out as ready. We don’t claim to be a fine dining restaurant - no white table cloths, staff is dressed in all black but pretty casual, and we play 90’s hip hop on our vintage stereo. We aren’t for everyone.
