Come to this restaurant to have a meal if you are hungry after gazing at Museo Lacustre de Atitlan. Take your beloved with you and enjoy tasty fish and perfectly cooked soup. Unfortunately, the staff is knowledgeable as many visitors note. El Bambu is remarkable for its terrific service. You will appreciate democratic prices. But clients rate this place below average on Google.

The food was very good, but unfortunately the experience at the end left a bad impression. I ordered the mojarra al vapor (steamed mojarra). It took quite a while to come out, though that’s not unusual for this dish. When it arrived, it was very well prepared — probably my second favorite version I’ve had in Guatemala, and I’ve tried this dish many times. They cook it wrapped in aluminum and serve it with a generous portion of vegetables (in my case celery, carrots, and others) along with guacamole. Overall, the portion size was solid and the quality was high. The issue came with the bill. This preparation is not listed on the menu, so I had asked a waiter beforehand (not my main server, but someone who passed by) what the price would be. He told me it would be the same as the other preparations — fried or a la plancha — which are listed at 110 quetzales. However, when the bill came, the steamed version was charged at 150 quetzales. On top of that, a service charge had already been included. I didn’t realize this at the time and ended up tipping extra, only noticing later when I reviewed the bill more carefully. I don’t believe there was any intentional wrongdoing, but it was clearly a miscommunication that I didn’t appreciate. It’s unfortunate, because the food itself was genuinely very good — but the billing situation left a bad taste at the end of an otherwise excellent meal.

It's quite hard to find a place with really good food in Panajachel. El Bambu is not such a place either. The dishes here are quite simple, ordinary, nothing can impress you. Just fish or meat dishes, with fries, rice, boiled vegetables... Come in, eat, forget. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: Q 50–100 Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3
