Service is friendly. Best to call ahead & place your to go/pick up/drive thru order. Fresh food, warm & made with homemade taste. The Mexican coke in a glass bottle is a nice touch to your meal. The burritos are large & worth every penny. The rolled tacos are crispy, chicken is tender, not dry, not greasy & freshly made. The lettuce, tomato & cheese side is very green & fresh. Queso is smooth, good spicy bite & large chunks if green chile. The salsa is tasty & also has a good bite to it. The tortilla chips are perfect size, shape, crisp & taste. Not too salty or greasy. The corn tortillas are thick & fresh.

El Indio Tortilla shop is a little place on Madrid near Fiesta Foods. There is no indoor dining: it is essentially a take out place. They make their own tortillas and chips and sell them in bulk. On occasion they have tamales. Mostly their limited menu consists of tacos and burritos, some "loaded" nachos, enchiladas, and a taco salad. You can order from within at a little counter or use the drive up window....which might cause you to have a serious wait time if you choose that option. On the day of my visit El Indio was quite busy and the three elderly ladies working the place were working rapidly and efficiently. The woman working the front took my order as soon as I walked in. She was pleasant and efficient. Overall, the business looked clean and orderly. It took around ten minutes for the preparation of my meal (and as I said, they were busy.)  I ordered their red chile burrito and green chile burrito.....both banado style. Both came with a mixture of yellow and white cheese and lots of chile sauce. The burritos had a somewhat thick shell made from their in-house fresh tortillas. The red burrito was made with pork and the green with a shredded beef (as is traditional around here).  The green also had bits of green chile over the top....always a nice and appreciated touch.  The overall flavor of the red chile burrito was quite good....but not exceptional. The flavor of the green chile burrito was very good. Both burritos had potato chunks in them but no fillers like rice or beans.....also a good thing. Very much enjoyed both burritos. Now, here's the kicker: The burritos served here are fairly large and cost just $3.50! Banado style add an additional $1.50 each. I paid only ten dollars for both burritos banado style. WHAT A DEAL!!!! Without the extra chile sauce and cheese the two burritos would have come to $7.00 for both. Compare that with the twenty dollars I spent on two burritos a couple of weeks ago at Las Trancas and you can see what a good deal the Indio is. And, Las Trancas isn't. So, why do I give El Indio a FOUR STAR RATING when there is no indoor dining??? Very good food quality, friendly people, and PRICES THAT CAN'T BE BEAT. THERE IS NO BETTER VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY IN THIS TOWN.
