I'm reviewing a disappointing order on Uber Eats. The hummus tasted and smelled of vinegar. The taboule salad was warm (should be served cold). The fries were drenched in oil. The only time that was tasty were the falafel. The overall impression was poor. Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3 Price per person: $5–10

UPDATE March2026, more than 2 years since last post UPGRADING RATING TO 5; new photos uploaded A RETURN TO A PLEASANTLY SURPRISING IMPROVED Levantine-specialty eatery . The place has expanded with MORE FOCUSED menu, that brings lovely memories of familiar street foods from the Levantine Mediterranean region… THIS ONE FEATURING LEBANESE FARES. GOOD NEWS: There is now Lamb Shawarma. the Plato Beirutí is a lovely sampling of great tasting foods: - Variety of Kabobs including grilled veggies, - a selection of Meze dips and salads (Hummus, Biesar Mujadara, Cabbage Salad, Tabouleh), - and Falafel …. - Served with warm Pita. A SUGGESTION: we would love to see Baba Ghanouj and Grilled Eggplant Salad, yogurt sauce at our next visit. The dining room is pleasantly well lit, simple but lovely ambience. Service is very good! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. *****. ORIGINAL It’s a small airy eatery on a quiet street from Ordóñez Lasso and Avenida de las Americas (Bus stop: Estación de Servició). The menu features popular Levantine (though they claim/imply Lebanese) foods: Hummus, Pita wraps, some Shawarmas, some kebabs and falafel. Food have very good flavors, good textures. However, it misses the mark of Levantine/Arabic gustatory highlight 1) with the over dominance of beef and chicken, with complete absence of lamb and baba ghanouz , the two most iconic food ingredients of the Levant . 2) there are no doners . 3) there’s a whole lot of burgers, which are obviously not Levantine 4) The pita bread is also obviously not made in-house but factory-made:::very grainy and starchy, and served cold. The sauces are notably very good, especially the yogurt-based ones. The hummus and Kibbie are most commendable . The Hummus Rojo is especially flavorful. The Kibbie, filled with ground beef instead of the usual lamb, is actually scrumptious. Though flavorful, the shawarmas are limited to slices of grilled beef or chicken then wrapped in rather small pitas rather than pita pockets. They have little or no yogurt-tahini sauce. Service is good. Happy to be visiting in Los Alamos area again. El Jeque has served consistently delicious food for the 5 years we've known about them. My husband was a chef and prepared middle eastern food for years. El Jeque is one of the few restaurants in town that meets his approval. The falafel is my favorite!
