El Nuevo Authentico is eh, muy muy athentico. My boss and I spotted authentico after a muy disappointing lunch at the thai place next door, and sort of found ourselves dining in after daring each other to try "authentico". Upon pulling up to this 1970s shopping plaza, there is plenty of parking. We were warmly greeted by a spanish speaking gentleman that seemed as surprised as us that we were coming in for some lunch. Menu basically consisted of rice/beans with chicken, pork or seafood. We were directed to the lunch specials which were written into a dry erase board in both english and Spanish. The specials seemed like left overs from last nights home cooked meal. I felt the eggplant and sausage (hot dog) was the safest choice of everything, my boss bravely choosing the fried pork chops. We grabbed a couple of waters out of the refrigerator near the kitchen and found a table along the wall. Food came out in a couple minutes, if not seconds, after we had placed our order. Rice and beans was ok, but that cannot really be messed up. Also came with small salad that I did not try. Egg plant and hot dogs, I mean sausage, was ... well I almost finished half of it. It also came with fried plantains which were amazing. Boss claims his fried pork chops were good. The gentleman tending to our table, who I think is related to the female chef, turned on a spanish soccer game for us, but was otherwise non attentive. Overall, not really sure what I was expecting... maybe an authentic quesadilla or taco. While the gentleman was friendly and food prepared quickly, I was not a fan of the offerings which was essentially rice with choice of meat. Based on the look of the pork chop, the meat did not look of that high of quality. While I am glad I finally tried authentico, I don't think I will be back as the restaurant is a little too authentico for my taste.
