This was a pleasant surprise in Portales. The menu isn't extensive, but the stuffed sopaipillas were very good! Food came out quick and the service was excellent. Good place for lunch. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

I have had stuffed sopapillas since I was a kid. These were by far the best I have ever had! My husband said his enchiladas were incredible! Service from Joaquin was outstanding. We stopped for lunch while traveling. Best decision we could have made! Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

El Rancho Restaurant in Portales, New Mexico, is a family-owned gem celebrated for its authentic New Mexican cuisine and warm, welcoming atmosphere. The excellent service ensures you’re promptly seated and attended to with drinks, accompanied by fresh salsa and chips to enjoy while you explore their menu. Every dish is a standout, but my personal favorites are their enchiladas—whether red, green, or Christmas style. Their Green Chili Cheeseburgers and fries are equally wonderful and not to be missed. Next door to the restaurant is the quaint El Rancho Breakfast Burrito spot. Their breakfast burritos are not only the best in the area but also the best I’ve ever had. You can choose from their delicious menu options or customize your own from a wide variety of fresh ingredients. Overall, El Rancho delivers a genuine taste of New Mexican hospitality and flavor, making it a must-visit dining destination in Portales. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
