Who comes to get shrimp and steak at a Bakery...I do! A genius all in one local gem in Newark, where you can legitamately spend your entire day savoring their full menu. I happen to come across Elite Bakery by coincidence, as our nearby Brazilian spot was extremely full with a crazy wait. Hubby and I had our 5 month old, who isn't exactly the best behaved baby and therefore we needed somewhere where he could be himself while we had a meal. We happen to see Elite Bakery offered specials and saw that there were only two people inside and ventured in. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the very enthusiastic owner from behind the counter. The smells of fresh coffee and sweet baked good filled the air, so we were a bit hesitant to order rice and beans. Alas, for the extremely moderate prices, we gave it a try. All the entree meals ($8-9) came with rice, beans, salad and french fries - just a different choice of meat. I ordered garlic shrimp and hubby ordered steak with onions. HOLY MOLY were they BOTH amazing! Personally, I recommend the garlic shrimp more, as the sauce was thick and perfect for dipping your fries in. But either way you go would be a win! Oh and the black beans....wow....I have never had beans more delicious than these! We were so impressed that we got a few items to head home to Philly. We ordered two Cuban sandwiches ($4 each) that were awesome! We got a few Brazilian pastries - my favorite was the coxinha (chicken filled potato ball). The tres leches cake was also excellent, although different from others I have had. As we sat having our meals people came to have these amazing coffee creations, pastries and pick up birthday cakes that looked to die for. I really wish I had something like this locally, because I would literally never cook again. I highly recommend coming here to taste some delicious Brazilian cuisine at a reasonable price.
