Good all around please. I had a Wagyu burger you could tell it wasn’t frozen. Fresh tasted well. Seasoned right Service is good nice atmosphere. I would definitely come back again. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We booked a table for our family of 4 at Esin Restaurant & Bar (750 Camino Ramon, Danville) and went in excited—the place has solid 4.3 stars on Yelp with 1,400+ reviews and 4.5 on TripAdvisor. Locals and reviewers constantly rave about the farm-to-table American-Mediterranean food: pot roast as a “tender flavorful winner,” salmon specials “cooked to perfection,” and desserts as the “best part of the meal—save room!” It’s been a Tri-Valley staple since 1998, so for $150 we figured it’d be a solid family night. Sadly, our experience was pretty mixed and didn’t live up to the hype. I’d call it more like 3.5 stars overall. Starting with my pot roast (a dish tons of people call a standout). I’d give it a 4/5. The meat was super tender and the flavors were solid with a rich sauce but the texture felt off—like it was pressure-cooked into a mushy softness instead of that juicy, pull-apart bite you want. Sauce was great, but it couldn’t save the lack of natural juiciness. A few other reviews have quietly mentioned occasional dryness too, so maybe just our night. My wife’s chef’s special salmon with quinoa and enoki mushrooms was the clear winner though—cooked absolutely perfectly, flaky and moist. I’m not usually a quinoa guy at all, but paired with those earthy mushrooms it totally won me over. Way better than plain rice. This one matched the raves about their salmon specials. Our daughter’s wagyu burger? Straight-up 1 out of 5. The buns looked cheap and sad, like grocery-store basics with zero effort. The patty had zero wagyu richness—bland, dry, no juice or marbling. The sauce didn’t help either. Restaurants need to stop tossing “wagyu” around so loosely; this felt misleading and was a total waste of money. Our little one’s grilled chicken and fries was just okay—fine for a kid, nothing burned, but nothing memorable either. Dessert was the pecan cake with ice cream (plus chocolate gelato for the kid). Average at best. The ice cream tasted like basic store-bought Breyers, and the gelato had frozen bits like it had been sitting around too long. Kinda frustrating when so many reviews call the desserts here mind-blowingly good. Look, Esin has loyal fans for a reason—the ambiance and sourcing sound spot-on in most write-ups—but our table just didn’t hit the consistent quality the raves promise. The one bright spot was our waiter, who was genuinely thoughtful and attentive the whole time. (Hostess at the start was a bit rude and set a meh first impression, but service recovered.) Bottom line: For $150, we probably would’ve been happier at Cheesecake Factory for more reliable family vibes. Maybe we caught an off night, but I wouldn’t rush back unless someone else was treating. If you’re heading to Esin from San Ramon, just go in with realistic expectations—some dishes shine, others miss the mark. Helpful for other families to know!
