To date I’ve had the opportunity to dine at Etto twice (first in 2025 and more recently in 2026, photos being a combination of the two) and each visit has been phenomenal. The Japanese-Italian cuisine served is inventive, theatrical and executed to a high-degree, at a level and with cohesion that I personally feel is better than other (starred) Italian/fusion establishments in Kyoto. Whilst the location is somewhat secluded and not large (seating a maximum of 8), dishes are cooked and plated chef-table style, adding the experience. Highly recommended. I really can’t thank the staff at Etto enough for the experience they provided for our birthday dinner celebration. We made reservations online a couple months in advance for a group of eight, thinking we would have a private table and hoping for a view of the kitchen. When we arrived, we were surprised and delighted to find we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. The course menu that followed was simply beyond our expectations - each dish was carefully curated and served in an order to take us on a journey of flavors, all of which were so delicious. Not only was the food likely the best I’ve had anywhere EVER, executed with precision and expertise, but the staff themselves were so warm, kind, and fun. They were also very considerate of my food allergies and even helped us out to our taxi in the pouring rain. Five stars isn’t enough for the experience you will have at Etto, and I hope to be lucky enough to return some day. Price per person: ¥10,000+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
