Food was tasty, service felt professional and friendly in the beginning, the waitstaff mixed up our order but quickly brought the right dish, the real issue I had was the following. The Hunter beer was priced at 300 takas in the menu with 25% tax and VAT. However, when we went to pay they said the payment was actually 700 takas and that the increase was because of the tax. I told them that there was no way a 25% increase to 300 would equal 700. Then they said actually that this menu was the old menu but they didn’t have updated menus on had. I countered that this was no excuse at which point they called their manager. The manager said that actually their restaurant doesn’t serve beer and they had to bring the beer from the bar and that incurs a higher cost. I asked where it said that would have an extra 400 takas in price but they couldn’t answer. Eventually they called an even higher manager and they asked me how I’d like to resolve this issue. I said I’d like to pay the amount mentioned in the menu which they finally accepted after about 15 minutes of negotiation. After paying my bill, the manager mentioned that we’re probably Chinese tourists (we’re not) and that he went to Malaysia one time where the beer was much cheaper and that we didn’t appreciate the increased cost of beer in Bangladesh. We said that that was completely irrelevant and that our problem wasn’t the price of the beer, it was the sudden increase in cost between what was said on the menu and what was asked at checkout. Unfortunately they didn’t seem to accept this point and continuously kept mentioning that they don’t serve beer in the restaurant and their menu was outdated. Considering this hotel seems to be a prestigious one in the heart of the city, I thought this was extremely unfortunate, unprofessional and petty behavior. Alhamdulillah I recently visited FEAST Restaurant, a buffet-style dining spot with a decent ambiance and satisfactory service. The decoration is pleasant, and the overall experience aligns with what you'd expect for the price of the food. However, I was shocked by the additional charges that significantly soured the experience. They added a 300tk service charge and a 500tk VAT, which amounted to nearly 1,000tk extra! This unexpected cost felt like an unfair burden, making the meal far more expensive than anticipated. While the food and atmosphere were acceptable, these hidden fees make it hard to justify a return visit.
