Place is closed for sometime. Not sure why this is not flagged on Yelp. We spent a fair bit of time to get there and came back disappointed.

After the Columbus Circle location was replaced by a Nordstrom Men's, this spot has unfortunately become the only place to get Payard goods in midtown. I say "unfortunate" because FPB's pastries are below average quality in general, but this basement location seems to be especially bad. I'm not sure when/where the goods here are baked before being transported, but on a recent visit I purchased two croissants that were completely stale and inedible. The plain croissant ($2.75) was legitimately horrible - I immediately spit it out after a bite, and my friend kept repeating "How old is this thing??" The almond croissant ($3.50) was marginally better after discarding the croissant part and only keeping the almond paste inside. The paste on top was really gross too - it had hardened from double baking but then become soft and stale and disgusting feeling. I really don't think these items should have been for sale. I've also previously had some pretty disappointing cakes here; probably the only decent item I've gotten at this location was a macaron ice cream sandwich (which can't go stale). The Epicerie Boulud here is also subpar, but there's a Ladurée about a 15 min walk away if you're craving French pastries, and even Bouchon Bakery at Columbus Circle and Eclair Bakery further east are better than the options in the Plaza. For croissants Maison Kayser is probably the best bet in the area. It's a bit of a walk, but this food hall location isn't worth the convenience.

3.5 stars. Review is just based on the Marcaron Doughnut and the two free macarons that I got from Marcaron Day. I got the black n' white marcaron here and the strawberry & cream marcaron from a nearby Francois Payard Bakery in Columbus Circle. You only had two choices and I guess that all FP Patisseries or Francois Payard Bakeries were only giving out the black n' white or the strawberry & cream marcarons. The Marcaron Doughnut was $5 and proceeds made during Marcaron Day will go to charity. It's an interesting pastry creation and it's just a marcaron shaped like a doughnut. I didn't eat the top and bottom part together at once since the bottom part of the macaron was hard to cut through with a butter knife. I ate the top part with the filling and then the bottom part. I actually was second guessing myself if the bottom part was even edible since it was so bland! LOL! My friend also got the Marcaron Doughnut but from Francois Payard Bakery. He said that he and his wife liked it. I thought it was OK and I guess mine was made by a different baker or something. The two free macarons were good. I didn't have any clear favorites between the two choices. Overall, the Marcaron Doughnut and two free marcarons were OK.
