Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking.

The counter kitchen arrayed around a hearth suggests an open-air bonfire. The eyes are riveted to the chef as he grills the meat, throwing charcoal on the fire. The use of grilling close to the flame, grilling over an open hearth and directly placing ingredients on the charcoal, brings the ingredients and brightly burning charcoal into a tight embrace... Visited this in 2024. The place is uniquely designed with an irregular bar counter shape that you will enjoy while watching the chef do the primitive style of grilling called genshiyaki. Food is great, and I liked the whole vibe of the place. One more thing, the chef was so easy to talk to and friendly. Price per person: ¥3,000–4,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We have been to a little underground adventure to one of my absolute favorite spots in the chic neighborhood of Daikanyama, Tokyo. If you’re looking for a place that feels like a secret hideaway but tastes like a world-class celebration, you HAVE to check out **falò**. The name "falò" means "bonfire" in Italian, and trust me, they take that theme to heart! ### ️ The Vibe: Underground Chic meets Cozy Bonfire Located in a basement (it literally feels like a stylish cave! ️), the heart of the restaurant is a massive open charcoal grill. The seating is all counter-style, wrapping around the kitchen so you get a front-row seat to the culinary action. ‍ The atmosphere is surprisingly laid-back—think 80s rock music playing in the background and a warm, "izakaya-style" buzz that makes fine dining feel totally unpretentious. ### ️ The Food: Italian Soul with Japanese Precision This isn't your typical white-tablecloth Italian. It’s "Bonfire Cooking" at its finest. Here are the absolute must-tries: * **The Legendary Porchetta** : This is their signature! It’s slow-roasted over the charcoal for over an hour. The skin is incredibly crispy, while the meat inside stays succulent and herb-infused. It’s often sold out, so order it early! * **Charcoal-Grilled Seasonal Seafood** : Whether it's the straw-grilled Bonito (Katsuo) or the beautifully presented Cutlassfish wrapped around bamboo, the smoky aroma from the fire elevates the fresh Japanese ingredients to another level. * **Smoked Aroma Carbonara** : A total game-changer. The smokiness from the grill finds its way into the creamy sauce, making every bite of the al dente pasta a rich, comforting dream. ### Foodie Tip: It’s a popular spot for the "adult" crowd in Tokyo, so definitely make a reservation via Omakase or Tablecheck. It’s perfect for a cool date night or a fun dinner with friends who appreciate "live" cooking. ️ **Final Verdict:** Falò is where the primitive magic of fire meets the sophistication of Italian flavors. It’s smoky, it’s lively, and it’s undeniably delicious. ** falò (ファロ)** *B1F LUZ Daikanyama, 14-10 Daikanyamacho, Shibuya, Tokyo Stay hungry, stay curious! #TokyoEats #Daikanyama #FaloTokyo #ItalianFineDining #CharcoalGrill #TokyoFoodie #BonfireCuisine Price per person: ¥9,000–10,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We had a healthy stroll from the Tokyo Westin to Restaurant Falo, and once we arrived, our assigned seats at the humongous bar were pointed out to us. Falo has a unique decor, kinda like you're dining in a cave. I can't say if I liked it or not. It was different, and that's cool. We sat down and realized our seats were the last two unoccupied. Falo is very popular with the young and hip. We're not young or hip. My spouse and I do not speak Japanese, and the menu was difficult to navigate, but we managed. The food was a fusion of Italian and Japanese with a little creative license thrown in. Most dishes were cooked on the charcoal grill, the centerpiece of this underground den. The food tasted pretty good, but there is no way I can describe what we ate. The photos will have to suffice. The servers and cooks are on display in the center of the bar, and Falo has a frenetic pace. No one has time to converse with you. I'm a gabber, and so I missed that. Most people will enjoy Falo. The dishes were tasty. For us, it was a bit too trendy, and the pace did not allow for relaxation. Yet, what do I know? I'm 75 and ready to be put out to pasture. Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3
