Visit this restaurant to try perfectly cooked fried prawns, fried oysters and scallops. The truth is that you will really like good key lime pie. Come here and order delicious beer.
Family Seafood House is famous for its great service and friendly staff, that is always ready to help you. A number of reviewers suppose that the dishes have attractive prices. There is a comfortable atmosphere and cute decor at this place. The overall rating is 4.8 stars on Facebook.

The service was lacking but the food was excellent!! We had a shucking good time!! Food - We went got the oyster bucket, so we only ordered the she crab soup, as oysters are not very filling. The soup was fantastic!! And the oysters were fun to shuck!! Service - the hostess told us that we could pick any table on the patio. 3 different staff members came out to the patio for other reasons but did not acknowledge us. I finally went inside to ask if we need to order inside... We were there later in the evening, and the bartender who brought out our bucket of oysters was very friendly and showed us how to shuck.

Was told that the calamari, mahi mahi, and shrimp were fresh, but they were obviously frozen. When we asked the waitress about it, she turned her back on us and walked away. Then she turned service of our table over to another waitress. Awful food and equally awful customer service.

It was on our last evening in the Hilton Head area that we went to this place, which goes by many names (see photo of their logo); search for "Toomer's (Family Seafood House)" or "Bluffton Oyster Company", and you'll find nothing in Yelp, even though their URL for the overall company is "BlufftonOyster.com". Maybe they need a professional 'brand' person to sort this out a bit better? They have an interesting history and presence (last hand-shucking oyster place in the state?), with another restaurant in the area. They were able to accommodate the 7 of us; guests were a steady stream but they were not crowded. Food and drinks are reasonably priced (fresh seafood is expensive, you know). There's some confusion around whether it's oyster season or not on the website, which suggests the old 'there's no 'R' in the month and so it's not cold enough to eat oyster" anachronistic adage - but the oysters were just OK anyway (kind of dry instead of swimming in a pool of its own death juice!). Calamari was also serviceable but not out-of-this-world-good. A few of us decided to go with the Chilean seabass ($34) - we were assured that it's the real thing when we asked (it was). As much as I enjoyed it, I was kicking myself for not choosing the more local specialty of shrimps, which apparently ARE undoubtedly in season. Perhaps next time!
