I was ready to be critical of this place as I have spent my life eating the best Texas, Kansas city and Memphis barbecue out there. I can honestly say that Famous Dave's has authentic barbecue that can compete with some of the better restaurants throughout the South. I would say that they share a lot of their foods characteristics more with Kansas City than other places. The atmosphere is family-friendly and the service is casual and pleasant. They also have the best corn bread I've ever tasted in a restaurant north of Kentucky.

Chain restaurants are able to slack with quality due to brand recognition, but on this occasion I was especially disappointed. After receiving my meal on the kitschy tray with a fork and dull knife strewn in broccoli butter, I noticed the texture of the brisket. Anyone who's ever had a piece of beef can tell something was off. The normally tender cut was 100% marbled, cut against the grain. Pointing this out to the server gained me a lecture on the fat content of different meats. The brisket was inedible, I ordered a chicken breast instead. This, of course, was a small portion once all the skin and bones were dissected. The cornbread and broccoli were good. Upon walking out of the restaurant I noticed several posters of how the brisket is supposed to look. The differences were blatant, likely will not return.
