We came to this restaurant based on the reviews for fangas veg which is just down the road. When we called to book they asked which restaurant we wanted and so we chose the one with both veggie and meat options (fangas maior). The positives: The staff were nice and helpful, the kids food came quickly and the atmosphere is nice. Overall we didn't enjoy the food and found the fishes a bit confusing in terms of flavours. We ordered: Cod: fish was nicely cooked but bland and the mash was fine but for us, didn't match with the fish. Aubergine: cubes of undercooked aubergine in a bowl of creamy liquid. Beans with mushrooms: was ok but beans are generally very good in Portugal so this was underwhelming. Salad: probably the highlight The kids meals were very dry and potentially cooked from frozen. The potatoes were fine. The house wine wasn't good albeit I didn't pick based on the menu. My wife wanted to provide feedback so did tell the waitress that the food wasn't to our taste. Hopefully it was an off night and we are disappointed we didn't stick with the other restaurant (fangas veg) which seems to have great reviews. Generally I don't leave reviews when I have a bad meal but felt inclined to in case it helps others, especially as the two restaurants have the same name (fangas), are next to each other but seem to be quite different in terms of quality. Nicely decorated restaurant but on a Sunday night a definite B-team vibe with student waiters who clearly felt they deserved better than waiting tables and indifferent food (frankly I'd have been ashamed to make an aubergine bruschetta that tasteless, let alone serve it to guests - ironically it was the only part of our meal not coated in chilli flakes). We baled out after three plates. Disappointing. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: €15–20 Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4
