Thinking only about the delicious non-ubiquitous pastries which are missed.  Pricey but different enough to be worth it.  Supply and demand.  The demand is there but the supply has been shut off.  Another photo is added.

Macau Snacks and Dinner! I just realized it's temporarily closed, likely due to the pandemic. I hope it comes back soon, as it's one of Chicago's best and definitely my favourite! There is an ultra cute and hip bakery with inventive sweets, including Guava and Cheese Bun, Taro Morning Bun, and Portuguese Egg Tart, and what I remember to be a hibiscus-like drink.Next door, there's the restaurant. We had conservas (sardines to wrap in nori), bread with dip (can't remember what was in it), fried rice, and the most amazing chilli prawns in this spiced butter sauce!Bakeries and restaurants in Vancouver need to capitalize on guava!!! Come on!Follow me @vinaeatsandtreats on Instagram for more honest restaurant and baking recipe reviews!

Before COVID, before the controversy, before the pubic allegations, Fat Rice was a hot spot and an essential restaurant.  If a bakery is solely about food, the Bakery at Fat Rice hit on all food cylinders. Not knowing what to expect walking in, I see high prices.  The pastry selections are different but my purse can take so much of  a hit. Pastel de nata, Ceylon Snickerdoodle, Malasada are all uncommon and all are so good subtly or with smackdown impact.  The biggest surprise is the savory Ceylon Snickerdoodle with a creamy filled center, which I didn't expect in a cookie. Chicago has excellent bakeries but needs more that are outside the box.  Alas, this outside the box bakery is no more.
