Amazing cocktails! This distillery, owner by Joey “Cinnamon” Canela produces the Malort of the American West, Amer Picon. I highly recommend the Picon Punch, and the cinnamon liqueur, which was born out of trip to Italy, was an absolute delight.

Ferino Distillery is a fun surprise in the former East 4th Street industrial area. In a 1930s era building, the outside entry is unpretentious, while the inside has two bars in an open & airy setting, with lots of tables and bar side seating. The inside décor is well done in a minimalist style- clean, uncluttered, welcoming, and showcases Ferino’s Italian liqueurs. Service was prompt, friendly and the staff clearly take pride in their establishment. Tours of the distillery’s production area can be scheduled, and classes are offered on cocktail making or doing custom-made gin to your liking. There were several creative or lesser-known cocktails offered using their liqueurs, so claiming “craft cocktails” is authentic and is not an overused marketing buzzword. The Picon Punch cocktail is not overly sweet or overpowering, but is tasty and potent, while their spin on the Toronto (a bourbon & fernet cocktail) is also a good sip worth trying. There are also several non-alcohol offerings on the drink menu as well. While there is a good offering of spirits to try, meals or appetizers aren’t on the menu. Then again, as a finalist for USA Today’s Readers’ Choice for Best New Distillery, their focus on the crafted spirits versus a kitchen paid off. The distillery sells hard to find Amer liqueur for the Picon Punch cocktail, Nevada’s State Drink rooted in Basque history. Other offerings include Caffe Notte, a coffee-based liqueur, a Cinnamon cordial, and Fernet. Fernet is the Italian “forefather” to Jägermeister, with a more botanical-minty profile versus Jäger’s sweeter & black licorice taste. All are quite good and well suited to take home for your own mixology experiments. Much of 4th Street has changed its look from a neglected industrial area to a revitalized buildings with personality that house good eateries, breweries and distilleries, and this one is definitely worth a repeat visit.

Pinto was amazing. We had such a great time, and he taught us a lot about Italian spirits. We will be back for the gin making class for sure! I love that you can pick your time, as we work odd hours so can't do the usual scheduled times.
