Perfectly positioned halfway between Queenstown and Te Anau, Five Rivers Café is the kind of stop you’re glad you didn’t skip. With ample parking and relaxed indoor and outdoor seating, it’s an easy, low-stress break on a long drive. The food hits the mark—excellent scones and solid toasted sandwiches that feel just right for the journey. Coffee is decent rather than standout, but the real bonus is out the back: horses, sheep, and chickens that turn a simple café stop into a mini adventure for kids. It was just on closing time on a Wednesday a few weeks back and the girls were happy to accommodate me. They even let me walk on their just washed floor! Great service. Very much appreciated Five Rivers
