Finding an open restaurant outside the usual lunchtime and before the regular dinner hours proved a big challenge. So our tour around town brought us to this French Brasserie inside the Hilton hotel.
I like the chain, but things already started off with waiting forever to get our menu and getting our order in.
Then the waterbottle came it wasn’t cold at all. We asked for a replacement, but there was none, so we got a bucket of ice to cool it down in at least. The glasses weren’t exactly clean either. . .
One of us ordered steak and the cooking degree was at the other end of the spectrum of what they had ordered. It is unfathomable to me how this can happen during a time that is not busy at all. They brought back the right order shortly, though. The accompanying salad wasn’t any good at all, very dry, like out of a pre-washed salad bag from the supermarket.
Another one of us had the ’25 Years’ celebration 3 course menu option and asked for replacing the Cava with freshly pressed juice that only arrived in the middle of eating the ‘Crepe Suzette’ desert and after asking about it again. The starter was a carpaccio, the main was pork tenderloin.
I had ordered the Bouillabaise. I liked the way it was presented, the fish and seafood were fresh and light. However, I had to ask for a spoon to eat it. Well, shouldn’t there be a spoon placed on the table after ordering a soup or bouillon? Strange for a supposedly high-class restaurant.
Even the dish cloth was the wrong way around. . . well, without going over any more annoying details that came up, we were not satisfied at all. Even though most of the food was good, the overall experience made it taste less good. We won’t be coming back here.
As Antwerp is generally a difficult place for finding good espresso no matter how good the food, we didn’t want another disappointment after an already frustrating meal and opted for the nearby Starbucks instead. (it was good!)
ps: The toilets are towards the entrance of the hotel, ask for the code before going, otherwise the door won’t open.

A very rude, snobish and unwelcoming host made it a very unpleasant experience. Will never plan to come back.
