Flower Child Review By The flavor and the Feeling, We are the Vegan Critiques... Kinda First Impressions & Staff The staff were lovely, welcoming, engaging, and genuinely friendly. They made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. Staff Rating: 8/10 The dining area was nice and clean. I'm not completely in love with the layout, but it makes sense and works well enough. Dining Area: 8/10 The floor staff seemed a little new in places, but overall they did a good job and were always pleasant. Food As vegans, we found the vegan options somewhat limited. Vegan Options: 5/10 The standout items were definitely the sweet potatoes and vegetables absolutely delicious and worth ordering. Most of the main meals sat around a 7.3/10 for us. Without dessert, the score would probably have been closer to a 6/10. Dessert: 9/10 The dessert, however, was excellent. A beautifully presented chocolate mousse/pudding with roasted almonds and coconut that was both visually appealing and delicious. Ordering Experience The menu feels a little chaotic with too many options competing for attention. The staff do a good job guiding you through it, but the experience could be simplified. I'd love to see: - More set meals - A dedicated vegan/vegetarian menu - More vegan options overall The drinks ordering system was also a bit confusing. It's not immediately clear how refills work or whether they're unlimited. When I wanted dessert, I had to get back in line to order it. It made me feel a little like I was in a high-end Burger King rather than a full-service restaurant. That said, the staff were quick to clear tables and were attentive overall. My server could perhaps have checked in to ask whether we wanted dessert or anything else before we got up ourselves. A few sugar packets and bits of table clutter were left behind after cleaning, but honestly, friendly staff are far more important than perfect service. Atmosphere & Facilities The artwork and overall aesthetic are attractive and fit the brand well. The open kitchen is a huge positive. Being able to see the staff cooking and preparing food gave me confidence that the kitchen is clean, organized, and well-run. Outdoor Seating The outdoor seating area is pleasant and attractive. One suggestion: water atomisers/misters would make a massive difference during Houston summers and would make the space even more enjoyable. Parking Parking was adequate and easy enough. Personally, I'd love covered parking, but that's mostly because I hate getting into a car that's been baking in the Houston sun. Wi-Fi You'll need to ask staff for the Wi-Fi password, which isn't ideal. Bathroom Rating: 5/10 The bathrooms could use some attention. The aesthetic feels a little neglected, and the floor needed wiping when we visited. Staff should probably check on the bathrooms more frequently. Hygiene overall seemed acceptable. Overall Flower Child offers a pleasant dining experience with genuinely friendly staff, a clean and visible kitchen, excellent sides, and an outstanding dessert. The biggest opportunities for improvement are expanding vegan options, simplifying the ordering process, and improving restroom maintenance. Overall Rating: 7/10 Would I return? Yes, especially for those sweet potatoes and that dessert. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $40–50 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
