Looking for a good pint and food on the way to the ferry and we found it! Proper old fashioned free house pub with good beer and good home cooking. The steak and ale pie was delicious with lots of mash and veg. Great landlord. If you’re tired of corporate chain pubs this is the perfect antidote.

This pub has had quite a few changes in Management of it. The newest manager appears to have a good commercial expertise and is making some positive changes to it. It feels like a country pub only minutes from, Newhaven set in the proud and separate location of Denton, close to great walks in the South Downs. Definitely worth a stop off and support a local pub at affordable prices.

Disappointed Flying fish is a charming spot with a lovely building and a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual drink or a night out with friends, it has that classic pub feel that makes you want to stay a while. The Guinness here is excellent—well-poured, smooth, and exactly what you’d hope for in a proper pint. It’s definitely a highlight and reason enough to visit. Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming, though to be fair, it was late on a Friday night, so that might have played a role. Maybe it’s better earlier in the evening or on a quieter day, but based on this experience, the drinks were the real star of the show. Overall, Flying Fish is a great spot for a pint in a beautiful setting, but if you’re coming for the food, it might be hit or miss depending on the timing.
