The ice cream here is definitely original, and the cone is one of the best I’ve had, but Folderol didn’t exactly live up to the hype in my opinion. Folderol is an interesting place: it mixes as both a wine bar and an ice cream shop. I was particularly excited to try their famous olive oil ice cream, and as I always do, their pistachio. Let’s start with the good. The cone was amazing. Clearly homemade, had a very butter taste and almost biscuit like texture. A lot of shops use the same cone and it’s easy to see when that’s the case. But here the cone definitely made Folderol stand out in a great way. Another strong point is the texture of their ice cream: perfectly smooth and creamy. In terms of flavour though, it was a bit underwhelming. The olive oil ice cream was. very interesting - I just wished they had been a bit bolder in terms of how strong the flavour was. It tasted like a refined version of fior di latte. The pistachio ice cream also could have been more intense. Also to note the scoop size is kind of small which isn’t ideal. As a concept, I reckon Folderol is probably pretty fun and worth a try. But for ice cream alone, I wouldn’t go back.
